The Utah Mammoth just finished a road trip with a pair of ho-hum performances, back-to-back overtime losses to Anaheim and San Jose. SLC Puck host Austin Facer felt it would be critical for Utah to grab at least two of a possible four points in the standings. The team accomplished that objective, but did so in perhaps the most unsatisfying way.
The Anaheim game was particularly unsavory with Utah giving up the game-tying goal with less than five seconds to go in regulation, and then seeing the game slip away in overtime after a miscue by netminder Karel Vejmelka.
Facer feels the tipping point for the Mammoth made soon be approaching. Questions remain. The biggest one of all: is this team actually playoff caliber? Hard to say. Fans are starting to get uneasy, he notes.
